Mexico Travel - Tulum

Get up early to watch the sun rise over the Mayan ruins of Tulum, near Playa del Carmen. Explore in peace then take a pre-breakfast dip in the turquoise sea - the ruins are on the beach.

Tulum Beach Ruins, Mexico

I recommend that you wake up early, rent a bike (M$2/day), then ride to the ruins. As long as you get there before 9am (the earlier the better) you will have the place to yourself for a while. There is no more climbing on the ruins - somebody decided to spray paint the main castle, so climbing has since been banned. Be sure to wear your bathing suit, because after walking around the ruins a nice cool dip is very refreshing.

Where to Stay:

There are two areas to stay in Tulum, in town or on the beach. I've stayed at both, Iguana Tulum, Mexico and they both have their good sides, and let's face it, when you are in Tulum there is no bad side! The beach zone is nice because, of course, you are literally on the beach. Most places have their own restaurant, but if you are camping you may want to bring some of your own food, but walking to the restaurant at the cabinas next door is always acceptable. In town it is also nice because although you are further from the beach you have a more lively scene, with bars restaurants, and window shopping. Plus sleeping here is overall much cheaper than sleeping at the beach
